In 1970 Miles was escaping the gravitational pull of the small and dying jazz clubs with his integrity intact. Making deep, dark truthful music, leaning on the most talented and adventurous young players, giving them space and a platform to launch their explorations. Shaping and editing their new music with his unique aesthetic sense. With Gary Bartz on alto sax, Keith Jarrett on electric keyboards, two percussionists and Jack DeJohnette on drums. The final part of the puzzle was young electric bass player Michael Henderson. Miles denied poaching him from Stevie Wonder but Stevie wasn't convinced. Miles was too busy running the voodoo down at the Fillmore to care what Stevie thought.
Performed at the Fillmore West, SF, CA, 15th & 17th October 1970 and broadcast by KPFA-FM.
Miles Davis - trumpet; Gary Bartz - alto and soprano saxophones; Keith Jarrett - electric piano, organ; Mike Henderson - bass guitar; Jack DeJohnette - drums; Airto Moreira & Jumma Santos - percussion.
