music > cd > DEEP PURPLE > Live at Montreux
A titan among rock bands, Deep Purple will always be closely associated with Montreux and were the number one choice to close the 40th Festival in 2006. They responded with a fantastic performance, their set blending classic Purple numbers such as Strange Kind Of Woman, Highway Star, Black Night and, of course, Smoke On The Water, with more recent compositions and not a little improvisation. The DVD also includes revealing interviews with all five band members - Ian Paice, Roger Glover, Ian Gillan, Steve Morse and Don Airey. As the replacement for Jon Lord, who departed the group in 2002, Airey has proved a perfect fit for Purple, his classical education enabling him to throw in as many Mozart references as his predecessor (who sadly died in July 2012). The Airey-Gillan-Glover-Morse-Paice line-up has recorded two studio albums, Bananas (2003) and Rapture Of The Deep (2006), the latter including Wrong Man, Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye and the title track, all present in this wonderful Montreux document which also features their producer Michael Bradford guesting on Hush and Montreux main man Claude Nobs taking a break from his MCing duties to blow a mean harmonica during the Too Much Fun jam.
