‘I’ve never met a man who combined spiritual depth, musical ability and international fame with such grace, charm and humility as Johnny.’

From the Back Cover
The songs and music of Johnny Cash have moved audiences worldwide for over three decades. In this fascinating autobiography the country music legend reveals the personal pain and turmoil that lay behind the incredible success of his professional career.

In his own words Cash reflects unsparingly on his turbulent past. He tells of his harsh childhood on the cotton farm; life on the road; friendships with Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan; the years of addiction to amphetamines and painkillers; his attempted suicide and the profound spiritual awakening which pulled him through.

Since signing his 1955 contract with Sun Records, Johnny Cash has released a staggering 450 singles, 1500 long play albums and 300 CDs. His recordings have been released in twenty-six countries. In 1996 he received a Kennedy Center Lifetime Achievement Award and released his American recordings album, 'Unchained'. He lives in Tennessee with his wife of over thirty years, June.
